before we even discuss jim and the doors, you may wonder what
makes me qualified to tell a Doors' story each week.
i guess this has to sound like i'm bragging to say this, but....
i've been to paris to jim's grave at pere' la chaise, and past
the flat where jim and pam lived in paris, the place where
jim died in 1971. been to L.A. to venice beach where jim hung-out
for almost 2 years in the mid-60's. been to Morrison hotel,
( it's gone now ) where the band photographed some shots, one
of which was so good, they used it for an album cover and titled the
album after it.
interviewed a local celebrity who knew jim in the 60's at Venice Beach.
( sorry, no name dropping ). have read several morrison/ Doors bio
books, countless magazine and newspaper articles, and now well
into the hundreds of internet articles.
i've also read two writings of jim's poetry books, poetry that he was
critically accaimed for just prior to his passing.
and thats just the stuff i can remember off the top of my head as
I write this. i'm sure there's a bunch that escapes me at present.
hopefully you'll find my Doors stories informative, and not just something
that got cut and pasted off the internet.

DOORS STORY OF THE WEEK
=======================
if you're a Doors fan, you have probably heard about jim's poetry.
you have even heard some of the poems as they were put to music
and became popular Doors songs.
jim's poetry first gained acclaim when he published seperate works
called The Lords, and also The New Creatures. later, these seperate
works were put together and published in both hardcover and paperback.
after Jim died, the remaining band members went into the studio and
took some of jims poems he had recorded, put them to music and
made their final studio album, An American Prayer.
below is my favorite Jim poem, part of the An American Prayer album.
jim's poetry is not an easy read or listen, but the more you do, the
more you understand it. ever read Shakespeare or Beowulf ? same thing !
yes, thats Ray, Robbie and John playing together on the video.
of course, the Shaman is Jim. always was.
this sunday, catch me right after jlock,
4-10pm. gonna rock the blocks.
