real-life movie characters II

yes, part 1 used up all its space.  its still there if you like going

back to some of the previous ones i've covered.

ELIOT NESS,   THE UNTOUCHABLES

yes,  he was a real person.  and a federal agent too.  a "G" man

back during the times of prohibition and the depression.

and long before kevin costner was eliot ness,   robert stack

portrayed him in the TV show with the same name,  that aired

in the late 50's and early 60's.

here's an eliot ness bio,  and then all of my favorite scenes

from the movie,  a cool 4 mins of clips.   "  that's the chicago way "  .

INVINCABLE,  VINCE PAPALE

this one is tough for me.  why ?   cause they made a movie about a hero

of mine,  a guy not only started with the eagles the first year i had a ticket,

1976,  but also sat just 4-5 sections away from me in the 600 level at the Vet.

76 was my first year,  and you probably know the eagles stunk that year.

one of the only bright spots for me was rooting for vince and his buddy

from the special teams, dennis franks.

also, 1976 was dick vermeil's first year as a coach.  he turned the team

around in just 2 years, and i loved his no-nonsense style.  in fact, i still own

my "Vermeil is For Real Button". so a movie about both vince and coach

vermeil is beyond expectations.

here's the movie climax, and the real play

SALLY FIELD, NORMA RAE. ( CRYSTAL LEE SUTTON )

sutton was the real life person, norma rae her fictional character and of course, sally field who portrayed them both.

sutton was a poor small-town southern single-mom working in a textile mill in the 1970's, under deplorable conditions and minimum wage. the movie apparently stays close to real life and sutton befriends a NY labor organizer who convinces her that a union will help solve the woes of the workers.

together, they push to organize the factory and a union is formed and joined by the workers. and while the organizer teaches sutton ( norma rae ) so many things she never dreamed of learning in her life, her struggles to maintain her pride through the problems of a simple lifestyle and horrible working conditions convinces him to stick with organizing that factory, long after his bosses want him to move-on.

below is 2 bio sites about the movie and sutton, and at the bottom, a clip of one of my fave movie scenes. never has 2 mins and 20 secs of no dialogue been so powerful. the scene, one of the most famous movie scenes ever.
